Support Group Volunteer

Our support groups are entirely volunteer-led, making dedicated volunteers essential to their success. Whether you have personal experience with a brain tumour, a passion for helping others, or skills in facilitation, your involvement can make a profound difference in the lives of those seeking connection and guidance.

Ideas of how to get involved:

  • Start a support group in your area if there isn’t one already.
  • Offer to lead, co-lead, or become more active in your local support group.
  • Visit the support group page to learn more about Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s support groups and programs.
Co-Facilitator

Locations: Greater Toronto Area and Ottawa

Description of Duties:

The Support Group Co-Facilitator plays a vital role in guiding and supporting group discussions alongside the co-facilitator. This role involves helping members navigate discussions, addressing interpersonal challenges, connecting individuals with community resources, arranging guest speakers, and developing discussion topics—all while ensuring that meetings align with the group’s mandate and Member’s Bill of Rights. The Co-Facilitator ensures that all participants feel heard, supported, and respected, working to meet their needs within the scope of the group’s purpose. They will receive training and ongoing support from the Support Services Specialist at the Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada. Since these meetings are hybrid, the successful candidate must be comfortable facilitating both in-person and virtual participation. Regular training and check-ins with the Support Services Specialist will be provided.

Time Commitment:

We ask that candidates plan to commit at least 2 years to the role.

Requirements:

Volunteers must be 18+ years of age and willing to undergo a vulnerable sector check.

For more information or to express interest in a role, please contact Mary O’Neill at moneill@braintumour.ca.
