Looking for a way to connect, reflect and grow alongside others in the brain tumour community? Join Brain Tumour Foundation of Canada’s Book Club, Empowered Minds. Whether you’re a brain tumour patient, survivor, caregiver or volunteer, Empowered Minds is a space to explore thought-provoking books and ideas in a welcoming, supportive environment.

Empowered Minds is a virtual program designed to promote personal growth, spark meaningful conversation, and foster resilience, hope and connection. Discover the joy of reading, reflecting and connecting with others who understand your journey!

What to expect

Empowered Minds offers a unique opportunity to engage with self-help and fictional works focused on themes such as self-discovery, courage, perseverance, adversity, transformation, self-love and personal growth. Through guided discussions, you will gain tools and insights that can support healthy, meaningful living.

Together, we aim to:

  • Explore practical strategies for personal well-being
  • Reflect critically on diverse perspectives
  • Share experiences in a nonjudgmental, inclusive space
  • Empower one another through connection and conversation
  • Foster resilience, hope, courage, and a growth mindset in participants

How it works

Each month, members vote on the next book to read from a short list of options, including at least one fiction title. Books are chosen based on accessibility, affordability, and alignment with monthly themes.

Weekly reading assignments are designed to be manageable and meaningful—around 80 minutes of reading per week, suitable for various reading speeds.

Participants are responsible for purchasing or procuring their own books. Purchase options include hardcopies, eBooks, and audiobooks. Participants may also rent the books from local public libraries.

Meeting schedule

Empowered Minds Book Club members meet virtually via Zoom on Mondays 8:30–9:30 PM ET and Sundays 1:30–2:30 PM ET. *Please check the meeting time in your time zone. Participants may attend either session depending on their availability. Each session covers the same reading and discussion questions.

Attendance is flexible—join when you can, based on your interest and schedule.
